AS EARLY as 6am, members of the public arrived in shuttle buses at the Istana Nurul Iman to have a chance at shaking hands and personally wish His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and other members of the Royal family Hari Raya Aidil Fitri greetings.
Nearly 60,000 people attended the first day of the royal open house at the Istana, While the second day recorded more than 20,000 visitors with more expected on the third and final day.

A TOTAL of 8,526 orphans, less fortunate and those with special needs from the Brunei-Muara and Temburong districts yesterday received kurnia peribadi (personal gifts) from the monarch ahead of the Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebrations.
From the Brunei-Muara district, 7,821 of them gathered at the Istana Nurul Iman to receive the donation, while 705 from Temburong received it at the Bangar Community Complex Hall.

THE Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation (Yayasan) held a tahlil (prayers for the deceased) at the Royal Mausoleum yesterday in honour of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit.
His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik graced the ceremony in his capacity as Yayasan’s chairman of the Committee of the Governors.
The tahlil was recited by Deputy State Mufti Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Hj Suhaili Hj Mohiddin.
Also in attendance were members of Yayasan’s Board of Trustee and senior government officials.
The tahlil to honour the late parents of His Majesty the Sultan is held every year in conjunction with the blessed month of Ramadhan.
