HIS Royal Highness Prince Dr Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and UBD Pro-Chancellor, yesterday launched Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) Convocation Festival at the Integrated Sciences Building.
The annual festival marked the start of a week-long celebration leading up to the 26th Convocation Ceremony on September 6.
During the launch, the Crown Prince toured an exhibition showcasing the latest developments and projects undertaken by students at the university. The exhibition, covering two floors within the building, featured booths managed by the UBD Student Representative Council (PMUBD).
Among the projects on display was the UBDApp, a new mobile application featuring a three-dimensional virtual map of the university.
Available for download via the Play Store, the Android application was launched by His Royal Highness while touring the exhibition.
The UBDApp was created to help students, particularly freshers, navigate through the sprawling campus.
Meanwhile, the Faculty of Science displayed new technologies including a virtual museum and students’ research on topics including cancer biomarkers, biodiversity preservations and halal technology.
The Entrepreneurship Village was also set up along with the Gild Siswazah, presenting a timeline of UBD as an organisation, “as a means to look back, reflect and work towards a better future” said the university in a press statement.
Other events and activities will also take place on campus as part of the Convocation Festival from August 16 to 23.
Over the week, UBD will host events such as a Khatam Al-Quran and thanksgiving prayers to bless the graduating students in their future endeavours as well as the UBD Green Run to raise environmental awareness and promote healthy living.
The events will run alongside cultural and traditional activities such as kite-flying and gulingtangan, enabling international students to explore local traditions.
Several contests will also be held including a student inter-house competition for a multitude of games and a creative Islamic Video competition. Further details on the Convocation Festival will be announced by UBD.
After touring the exhibition, His Royal Highness accepted a pesambah presented by PMUBD. The Crown Prince also greeted students and teachers during the launch.
Carrying the theme “Youth with Vision”, UBD said the convocation festival will focus on the role of the university as a focal point for youth to come together and work towards achieving their vision for the future.
